The 1st EURCAW-Aqua Roadshow took place on 9 February 2026 in Salamina, Greece, bringing together national competent authorities and experts for a focused technical exchange on farmed fish welfare.
Organised by the University of Crete under the EURCAW-Aqua mandate, the event combined targeted technical presentations with an on-site visit to a commercial aquaculture facility, offering participants a practical and regulatory perspective on welfare implementation.
During the morning session, participants explored:
- the mandate and support tools of EURCAW-Aqua
- the EU legislative framework for seabass and seabream welfare
- scientific approaches to welfare assessment
- live polling to identify national training priorities
The afternoon field visit to Argosaronikos S.A. enabled direct observation of welfare-critical stages, including harvesting, handling and packaging, strengthening the link between regulatory requirements and real production conditions.
The Roadshow successfully enhanced institutional understanding, captured structured training needs, and strengthened dialogue between regulators and operators, confirming the added value of this integrated training model.
This pilot action marks the beginning of a broader series of EURCAW-Aqua Roadshows across Member States.
