EURCAW-Aqua participated in the third annual meeting of the European Union Reference Centres for Animal Welfare (EURCAWs), held in Rome on 10 – 11 June 2026 and hosted by the Italian Ministry of Health.

The meeting brought together more than 40 colleagues from across the EURCAW network to discuss the theme ‘Strengthening coordination among EURCAWs: state of play and key challenges’. The participants exchanged knowledge, discussed ongoing activities, and strengthened collaboration in support of animal welfare throughout the European Union.

The event opened with remarks from the Italian Director-General for Animal Health, Giovanni Filippini, followed by heartfelt tributes to the late Harry Blokhuis from Jens Malmkvist and Isabelle Veissier.

EURCAW-Aqua was pleased to contribute its expertise in aquatic animal welfare and to engage in discussions that promote scientific cooperation, knowledge exchange, and evidence-based support for Competent Authorities across Europe.
