EURCAW-Aqua participated in the 3rd Annual Meeting of the European Union Reference Centres for Animal Welfare (EURCAWs), held on 10–11 June 2026 in Rome, Italy, and hosted by the Italian Ministry of Health.
The annual meeting brought together colleagues from across the EURCAW network to exchange knowledge, share updates on ongoing activities and strengthen collaboration in support of animal welfare and the work of competent authorities across the European Union.
The meeting opened with remarks from Giovanni Filippini, Italian Director-General for Animal Health, followed by heartfelt tributes to the late Prof. Harry Blokhuis from Jens Malmkvist and Isabelle Veissier.
Over the two-day meeting, representatives of the EURCAWs discussed current and upcoming activities, shared experiences and explored opportunities for closer cooperation and coordination between the Centres.
For EURCAW-Aqua, the meeting provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen links with the other Reference Centres and contribute to the continued development of a coordinated European network supporting science-based animal welfare.
We thank the Italian Ministry of Health and our EURCAW colleagues for hosting and for two productive days of exchange and collaboration in Rome.
